Happy Easter, folks!
The Birthday month was a busy one. The first half was taken up with the Fistful of Next Fest video. I had to crunch to get that out because I missed the start of Next Fest and only got to it in the final couple of days. The draft script is done and I'm about to work on the final draft. Unfortunately the tablet I use messes up the formatting when ported into Word so I need to reformat the whole thing first. Didn't realise this would be an issue when I bought the tablet; if I'd known, I'd have bought another brand. I'll be happy to put this video behind me and move on to shorter videos as originally planned :P
What's Blondie playin'?
I couldn't resist buying Resident Evil: Requiem. It's a fantastic game, I had a blast, but it's not perfect. A discussion for another time. Once that was finished, I got the itch to play all the RE games I haven't finished yet which include all the remakes, and 5, 6, 7, and 8. Yeah, it's been a while since I Resident Eviled. Instead of jumping into the unplayed games, though, I decided to do an entire chronological run, starting with RE Zero. I've almost finished Zero, Maybe a couple of hours left.
If you'd like to see an RE video of some description, let me know!
Ambitions
I realised with the Next Fest video that I forgot to do proper audio balancing for the backing music. The long periods between video production so far have meant that lessons learned are not practiced frequently enough to be retained, so I have to relearn them. The shorter video format should help with that issue. Once we actually get there.
Personal ambitions
Running: it's taken over a month, but the adjusted zone 2 is finally paying off with results. Heart rate drift is also slowly leveling with all the tempo and VO2 max training. It'll still be ages before they have a real impact, but times are already dropping which is a good sign. Also added some sugar-based carbs to the coffee and snack balls before the morning runs and it's making a significant difference to energy levels and run times, so I'll stick with it.
I've read a few books this month, but it's study for a personal project. I'll reveal the project in time because it's something you'll be able to view, but it's too early to announce anything and I prefer to do the hard work before the announcement.
Tell me what you're playing this month, and don't be shy about dropping video and game recommendations.
Until next month, pardners.
Hey Folks, the video is finally done. Apologies for the late release, a few things came up near the end of the month which delayed release. I hope you enjoy it!
G'day, chaps and chapettes. July down, progress made.
The Doom/Quake horror video is now at 1hr 36mins. I had hoped to be closer to the 2hr mark by now but stumbled across more supporting material, and viewing/cutting it has taken longer than expected. I'm also making an effort to use footage which supports talking points, and because the script is loaded with talking points (and because the Doom 3 playthrough spans 18 long video files), finding footage to support even a single paragraph of the script has sometimes taken 30mins or longer. There was also another body of work I needed to complete for the Blondefire channel which was delayed by last month's IRL work, so July was very much a catch-up month all around.
The good news is that July was free of IRL distractions so I've made big progress on the video. I normally add the backing track after the footage and voice over is laid, but this time I've added it as I go. This means that the next (and final) pass only requires QA checks and audio ...
G'day, chaps and chapettes. What a crazy month it's been.
So. The video production is coming along nicely. There are a tonne of images, sounds, B-roll videos, interview footage and other miscellaneous stuff required, and sourcing it for a video this long and detailed is taking time. This is no different to other videos I've made, though it is compounded by having to cover a lot more games.
I've also hit an issue I've not had in previous projects. Well, I sort of had, but not to this degree. This video uses 4.6TB of recorded game footage. Terabytes, not a typo. Davinci Resolve, my video editing software, doesn't like loading lots of 2k videos into a project, and it has hung and crashed numerous times. I briefly had this issue with the Marathon and Jedi Knight videos - they're the longest ones on the channel so far - but only when the production timeline approached the 2 hour mark. This project struggles to copy even small clips into the timeline, and it would have been impossible to continue.
The fix? Proxy ...
